Girls Sport in Warrandyte – Netball

Netball is Warrandyte’s most popular girls sport — offering fun, fitness, and friendship from age 5 through to senior competition from a club based Warrandyte Reserve.

Choosing a sport for your daughter can feel overwhelming. Warrandyte has plenty of options but if you’re looking for a team sport that’s social, active, and offers a genuine pathway from beginner to elite, netball ticks every box.

Why Netball Is Warrandyte’s Most Popular Girls Sport

Netball is the most played women’s team sport in Australia. At Warrandyte Netball Club, with participation managed through Netball Victoria, we see why every season.

What makes netball stand out:

  • Start young: Woolworths NetSetGO from age 5, no experience needed
  • Friendships: Team of 7 on court, small squads, strong bonds
  • Low injury risk: Non-contact sport with excellent cardio and agility benefits
  • Play for years: Programs from age 5 through to senior and social netball
  • Affordable: No expensive equipment, just shoes, a skirt, and enthusiasm
  • Pathway: Representative netball from 11 and Under, regional selection, state titles
  • Local: Training at Warrandyte Reserve and Saturday games at Manningham Templestowe Leisure Centre

What Makes Netball Different

Everyone Plays a Role

Netball has seven distinct positions, each with a specific job on court. Unlike sports where one or two dominant players can control the game, netball requires every player to contribute. Quieter kids find their place just as easily as confident ones.

Built for Teamwork

You can’t run with the ball in netball. Every move forward requires a pass to a teammate. This makes netball one of the most genuinely collaborative sports. Players learn to communicate, trust each other, and work together under pressure.

Low Barrier to Entry

Netball’s fundamentals (catching, throwing, and moving into space) are skills most children already have. A beginner can join a NetSetGO session and be involved from minute one.

A Sport She Won’t Outgrow

Many girls drop out of sport in their teens. Netball has one of the strongest retention rates of any girls sport in Australia, because it adapts at every stage. At Warrandyte, our age groups move from fun-focused development through to competitive junior and senior netball.

How Netball Compares

  • Vs court sports: No dribbling to master, clearly defined positions, smaller court means more involvement for every player, and the non-contact rule means fewer injuries
  • Vs football codes: Competitive team experience with less physical contact and a lighter time commitment
  • Vs individual sports: Swimming, gymnastics, and athletics are great for fitness, but netball adds the social and collaborative elements of a team. Many of our players do both
