If you’re looking for a team sport for your child in Warrandyte, netball is one of the best options available. It’s fun, inclusive, affordable and builds skills that last a lifetime.
A Sport for Everyone
Netball is one of the few team sports where every player on the court touches the ball in every passage of play. With seven positions, each with a distinct role, there’s a place for every body type, personality and skill level. Whether your child is tall or short, fast or strategic, quiet or outgoing, they’ll find a position where they thrive.
At Warrandyte Netball Club, we welcome players from age 5 through to senior competition. From Woolworths NetSetGO for beginners through to Open-age competition, there’s a team for everyone.
Affordable and Local
Compared to many other sports, netball has low barriers to entry. There are no expensive equipment requirements. Registration fees at Warrandyte Netball Club cover competition entry, insurance and training.
Training is held at Taroona Avenue in Warrandyte and games are played at Manningham Templestowe Leisure Centre. See our locations page for directions.
A Clear Pathway
Netball offers a structured development pathway from beginner to elite:
- NetSetGO (ages 5 to 10) — learn the basics in a fun, non-competitive setting
- Junior competition (9U to 17U) — develop skills in a competitive but supportive Saturday morning competition
- 21 and Under — the bridge between junior and senior netball
- Open competition — play competitively on Saturdays and Tuesdays
- Representative netball — talented players can trial for Manningham Representative Netball and the Chisholm Region and compete at the Victorian State Titles
More Than Just a Sport
The friendships your child makes at netball will last well beyond the court. Netball teaches teamwork, communication, resilience and sportsmanship. Our club culture is built on inclusivity and mutual support. We celebrate effort as much as results.
We’re as proud of the players who lace up for their first game as we are of our premiership winners. And the parents who volunteer as team managers, coaches and committee members are the backbone of everything we do.
Skills for Life
Research consistently shows that team sport participation in childhood builds skills and habits that carry into adulthood. (Sport Australia AusPlay data)
What netball develops:
- Mental health: A positive outlet for energy and stress, with the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a team
- Social skills: Communication under pressure, supporting teammates, celebrating each other’s successes
- Academic performance: Discipline, focus, and time management from balancing sport and school
- Physical literacy: Agility, balance, coordination, speed, and spatial awareness from a non-contact sport
- Leadership: Captaining a team, mentoring younger players, making decisions and leading by example
At Warrandyte Netball Club, we see these benefits every season. Children who start in NetSetGO grow into confident, capable young people, and netball plays a real part in that journey.
Netball and Other Sports
Many of our players combine netball with other sports throughout the year.
- Football: Netball is Saturday mornings, football typically Sundays. The two develop complementary skills and the seasons are fully compatible.
- Cricket: Cricket runs through summer while netball fills autumn and spring. Catching, throwing accuracy, and reading the play are central to both.
- Basketball: Closely related court sports. Netball’s no-dribbling rule encourages quicker decision-making and spatial awareness that benefits basketball players too.
- Swimming or athletics: Pairing an individual sport with a team sport gives children the best of both worlds: personal discipline alongside the teamwork and social connection of netball.
