Woolworths NetSetGO at Warrandyte Netball Club is the perfect introduction to netball for kids aged 5 to 10. This fun and engaging program focuses on developing fundamental motor skills, teamwork, and a love for the game in a supportive and inclusive environment.

Woolworths NetSetGO is Australia’s leading grassroots netball program, designed for children aged 5 to 10. It’s how most kids in Warrandyte start their sporting journey, and it’s the pathway into junior competition at our club.

The program runs in three age-based stages, each building on the one before. Sessions are fun, inclusive, and focused on developing confidence and basic netball skills. No experience is needed at any stage.

Net (Ages 5-6)

Fun, active sessions focused on basic movement and ball skills. Children learn through games and activities rather than formal coaching. Sessions are short and high-energy, designed for the attention span of five and six year olds.

  • Catching and throwing
  • Basic footwork and balance
  • Spatial awareness and moving in a group
  • Taking turns and playing with others

Set (Ages 7-8)

Set builds on the basics with more structured activities. Children start learning the shape of the game, including positions, passing to teammates, and simple rules like the footwork rule.

  • Chest pass, bounce pass, and shoulder pass
  • Defending and intercepting
  • Understanding court areas and positions
  • Playing modified games with teammates

By the end of Set, most children have a good feel for how netball works and are ready to start thinking about competition.

GO (Ages 9-10)

GO is the bridge between the introductory program and junior competition. Sessions include more game-based scenarios and children play modified matches as part of the program.

  • Game sense and decision-making
  • Positional play and movement patterns
  • Shooting technique
  • Teamwork and communication on court

Ready for competition? Children in the GO age range can also play in our 9 and Under competition teams on Saturdays. This is an additional option alongside NetSetGO, not a replacement for it.

What a Session Looks Like

Every NetSetGO session follows a similar structure, adapted for each age group. Sessions are run by club volunteers trained through Netball Victoria’s coaching framework.

  1. Warm-up games (10 minutes) — fun activities to get everyone moving and engaged
  2. Skills activities (20 minutes) — focused drills and exercises matched to the age group
  3. Game time (20 minutes) — modified games that put new skills into practice
  4. Cool-down and wrap-up (5 minutes) — stretching and a recap of what was covered

Session Details

When & Where

Sessions run each school term at Taroona Avenue, Warrandyte. Each session is approximately one hour. Days and times are confirmed before each term.

What to Bring

Court shoes, a water bottle, and comfortable clothes. No uniform is required — each participant receives a Woolworths NetSetGO pack as part of their Netball Victoria registration.

What Makes NetSetGO Different?

Unlike other junior sports programs, NetSetGO is purpose-built for the way children learn at each age. The youngest kids play games. The older kids play netball. Everyone progresses at their own pace.

Sessions are designed so every child is active and involved, not standing on the sideline waiting for a turn. The Net and Set stages are entirely non-competitive, with the focus on skill development, fun, and building confidence.

What Happens After NetSetGO?

When children are ready for competition, the next step is a 9 and Under or 11 and Under team in the Saturday competition at Manningham Templestowe Leisure Centre. Some kids in the GO age range play both NetSetGO and 9U competition at the same time.

The transition is straightforward. The skills, friendships, and confidence built in NetSetGO carry straight into their first competition season.

New to netball? If you’re a parent learning about the sport alongside your child, our Netball Guide covers positions, rules, and what to expect on game day.
