Three Warrandyte Netball Club players represented Manningham Netball at the Netball Victoria 13 and Under Association Championships on Sunday, taking the court at the State Netball Centre in Parkville, where the Melbourne Vixens train.
The Central East qualifying day was one of five regional events held across Victoria, with more than 95 associations and 4,400 players competing across the full championship program. Earlier in June, six WNC players represented Manningham at the open age championships at the same venue.
How our players went
Aisling and Charli played in the Manningham 13 and Under Championship team, which had a strong day on court. They won 4, drew 1, and lost 3 of their 8 games to finish 4th in their pool of 9 teams.
Lucy played in the Manningham 13 and Under Reserve team, finishing 5th of 9 in their pool with 2 wins, 1 draw, and 4 losses.
For all three players, competing at association level is a big step up from Saturday club netball. The pace is faster, the competition is tougher, and the experience of representing your association alongside the best players from other clubs is something that stays with you.
What are the Association Championships?
The Association Championships are a key part of the Netball Victoria pathway. Associations across the state, including Manningham Netball, select their strongest players to compete in regional qualifying tournaments across 13 and Under, 15 and Under, 17 and Under, Open, and All Abilities divisions.
The top teams from each region progress to Finals Day at the State Netball Centre, and Netball Victoria talent scouts attend these events to identify athletes for the representative pathway.
Congratulations to Aisling, Charli, and Lucy. We’re proud to see WNC players competing at this level.
