Falcons end decade-long Open A wait

2009-08 Open A premiers Warrandyte Falcons
 ·

Warrandyte Netball Club won three premierships in the 2009 Winter season, headlined by the Open A Falcons’ long-awaited flag in what was believed to be the club’s first open-age premiership in a decade.

Playing coach Nat Dusting’s Falcons won by the barest of margins, defeating Donvale Divinez 33-32 after the scores were level at half time. The exciting game went down to the wire, with the result not decided until after the final siren. It was an important milestone for several players in their first season at the Open level.

The 15U Galahs also took their flag in an all-Warrandyte grand final, defeating the 15U Rosellas 28-23 in a contest where the winner was always going to be wearing red and white. The 13U Sunbirds rounded out the trio with a 20-14 win over Donvale Dolphinz.

With 17 teams competing in the association that season, the three premierships demonstrated the club’s strength across all age groups.
