Why the Start of the School Year Is the Perfect Time to Try Netball

A new school year means new routines, new friendships, and new opportunities. If you’re weighing up activities for your child, here’s why the start of the year is the ideal time to try netball.

Fresh Start, Perfect Timing

Children are already adjusting to new routines at the start of the school year, making it easier to add a new activity. Starting early in the year means:

  • Friendships form early — connections made now last the whole season
  • Seasons align with school terms — netball fits neatly around the school calendar
  • Maximum development time — starting early gives your child more time to learn and progress before finals
  • Registration drives — most clubs run their main registration period at the start of the year, so there’s plenty of support for new families

Not Sure What Age to Start?

Children can start netball from as young as 5 through Woolworths NetSetGO, with programs designed for every age and stage. We’ve put together a complete guide: What Age Should My Child Start Playing Netball?

Haven’t Missed the Boat

If you’ve missed the initial registration rush, it’s still worth reaching out. At Warrandyte Netball Club, we accept registrations throughout the year where possible, and our Woolworths NetSetGO program runs across multiple school terms.

Visit our registrations page for current season details, or contact us to find the right program for your child.

The club honoured key volunteers like Jess Longstaff , Sue Hadden, and recognised Norah Bulgin as the Dusting Player of the Year for her multi-faceted contribution. The biggest highlight was awarding our ninth Life Membership to long-serving committee member and dedicated volunteer Suzy O’Rourke.
