Congratulations to the Warrandyte Football Club Swans netball team for their premiership win in the Eastern Football Netball League. They won division 7 in thrilling style, defeating Lilydale Blue in extra time.
The Swans had finished second on the ladder before defeating the top team, Waverly Blues Red, 29-24 in the second semi-final to progress straight through to the grand final. Lilydale Blue had finished 3rd before defeating the 4th team, Vermont Eagles Lilac, 42-26 in semi-final 2 and easily beating Waverly Blue Red 42-28 in the preliminary final to progress to the grand final.
The grand final was a close and hard-fought affair, with neither team leading by more than 3 goals during regular time. The Swans had a chance to win in regular time, leading by 2 goals and in possession of the ball with a minute remaining. Somehow Lilydale Blue managed to turn the ball over score 2 goals to tie the match and force it in to extra time.
The Swans took the lead early in the first of the 2 x 5 minute extra time halves and went on to win 40-34. The Swans’s Darcee Clark was named Best on Court.
